Valentine Case Homicide Remains Unsolved in Monroe County Florida

The white female victim, who is believed to have been between 16 to 25 years old at the time of her death, was found on West Summerland Key in Monroe County. The victim had been strangled with her own bathing suit top and her nude body was found on a dirt trail in a thick, wooded area on Feb.15,1991. Her face also was bruised during a beating.

FDLE agents and Monroe County Sheriff’s investigators have been trying to identify the victim, known as Florida Jane Doe, and solve her murder for 16 years. The homicide case remains open. Investigators said the victim was 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighed 145 pounds and had straight, dark brown hair that was cut above the collar. She also had brown eyes, and each of her ears had been pierced four times.

The victim also had two tattoos – a large heart with the word “Love” was on her upperleft arm, and she had another tattoo of a cross with sun rays emitting from its center. That tattoo was on her left hand between her thumb and forefinger.

Investigators said an autopsy revealed that the victim may have carried a baby to full-term and was a non-smoker.  Agents said the victim had taken good care of her teeth and had a molar extracted when she was about 10 years old.

Agents said the victim’s clothing was found near her body. Some of the items recovered were a long-sleeved, pinkish-red- and bluish-purple-striped sweater, knee-length denim shorts and size 6 ½ B black moccasin-style booties with red stitching. She also had on a watch with a silver band and wore four earrings in one ear and two earrings in the other ear.
